Shakti, feminine principle and primordial energy of the universe
She is more than a divinity and central axis of the shakta creed: in fact, she takes the form of different goddesses depending on the tradition and historical moment.
I want to share with you information so you can awaken your creative feminine energy. Will you join us?
Shakti or Śakti, in Sanskrit, can be translated as energy, ability, strength or force, among other terms. It is the primordial cosmic energy: creative, sustaining and destructive.
The other great aspect of Shakti is that it is the feminine principle. In certain currents of Hinduism, it is prior to the masculine and, in fact, contains both principles, so it represents the Supreme Divinity. It is important to understand that it is an energy superior to a specific Devi: it envelops them all. It has infinite forms, has no beginning and no end and will always be.
Shakti is the only truth.
The transcendent divinity of Shakti manifests and, at the same time, does not manifest. In some legends, she appears as an avatar of Parvati or as Kali, she illuminates the Universe as creative energy and is present during and after its destruction, allowing it to regenerate. Historians of religions place her as the third most venerated divinity in the Indus Valley, only after Vishnu and Shiva. Shakti is also known as Mahadevi (Great Goddess), the consort of Mahadev (Shiva), traditionally adopting the figure of Parvati, Sati or Durga, among others.
Within Hinduism, the Shakta current considers Shakti as a key figure in its spirituality, being the supreme being that contains the energies of Shiva and Parvati. As the main goddess, she is called Adi Shakti or Adi Para Shakti. Shakti is the soul of the Universe and the source of wealth, knowledge, faith, strength, modesty, forgiveness, and many other qualities. The myth of Parvati and Shiva illustrates that without the feminine principle, the world cannot function properly, as it is the basis of all balance.
Ganesha, son of Parvati and Shiva, the energy of Shakti
According to tantric philosophy, in the beginning there was only the god Shiva, the male principle of everything, in silence. But then Shiva looked at his navel and what was one became three.
That moment when creation looks at itself is called Shakti, it is the feminine principle, the great goddess who, according to Hindu cosmogony, married Shiva to give vital energy to all that exists and to bring us back to unity. It is the capacity of existence (unity) to divide itself into three (you reading, this note being read and the process of reading) and then unite again in the understanding that we are a unity.
Put in more scientific terms: existence was a point, a whole. From the Big Bang, space was created; then, the stars, which cooled into planets; and these had water, minerals, microbes, vegetables, animals..., until an animal, the human being, separated from creation to understand it. Thus, the intelligence of the universe generated a kind of "intelligent franchise" to judge the creation. In this human moment there is a separation between perceiving subject, process and perceived object.
When we look at the microscopic level, anything is made of molecules; and these, of atoms; and these, of nuclei, protons and electrons. But... what are electrons made of? Quantum physics tells us of a subtle vibrational energy that is the elementary "material" of which all things are ultimately made. It is the same energy that the ancient sages perceived as an expression of the feminine principle: Shakti, which has the scientific name of super string or unified field.
How to identify Shakti?
To unite with Shakti means to transcend separation and return to unity. As children, we experience this oneness with others and the world. However, as we grew up, intellect and culture taught us to distinguish right from wrong, and we witnessed suffering that contradicted our innate joy. This awareness made us notice differences, conflicts and dangers, which frightened us and led us to lose confidence. We began to believe that problems and solutions, unhappiness and happiness, were outside of us. The great challenge is to embrace the human experience and reconnect with the natural fluidity and joy we had as children. As we reconnect with this energy, we experience a powerful state of fluidity and oneness with the universe.
This expansion of consciousness occurs organically, without forcing it. We must free ourselves from the idea that everything depends solely on our effort and stop feeling that "everything depends on me". This mentality only exhausts us and makes us controlling. Instead, Shakti operates through the feminine energy of letting go and relaxing. From that space, the right answers emerge, we empower our creativity and our capacity to love.
